Route 2 in this area is also known as the “Mohawk Trail.” Near the Barton Cove campsite, Route 2 is called the “French King Highway.”
From I-91 Northbound
As you approach Greenfield from the south, Exit 26 offers a variety of travellers services: gas stations, lodging, restaurants, and super markets.
For Northfield Mountain, take Exit 27
to Route 2 East and continue east. You will pass the group campsite at Barton Cove (3.9 miles) and cross the
French King bridge (6.3 mi or 1.0 km). At 7.2 miles You’ll be in a construction area. Turn left onto Semb Drive between Countree Living Restaurant
and the Entertainment Center. Drive one long block and make a left at the stop sign onto Moore Street (Route 63
North). 2.0 miles later, turn right at the "Northfield Mountain" sign and proceed to parking.
From I-91 Southbound (Vermont)
From the North on Interstate 91, take Exit 28 in Bernardston. At the top of the ramp, turn left onto Route 10 North. Drive 4.5 miles and turn right at the stop sign onto Route 63 South. Continue 5.2 miles, turn left at the "Northfield Mountain" sign, and proceed to parking.
From Route 2 West
Coming from Albany or North Adams areas on scenic Route 2, drive to Greenfield. At the I-91 rotary interchange (Exit 26), drive 3/4 around and take I-91 North. Then follow the directions above, I-91 Northbound.
Cellphones
Cellphone reception enroute should
be excellent on major highways. Signal strength may be spotty around Northfield, depending on your provider and
your location. There is a cell tower on top of Northfield Mountain.
Automobile Services
Fuel is readily available on I-90
and off I-91, I-84, and I-95 and in Greenfield and Turners Falls. Between Greenfield and North Adams on scenic
Route 2, service stations are few and far between.
